Mental Health First Aid Course

The 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to offer initial support to individuals who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. The course curriculum is evidence-based and has been developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia.

COURSE CONTENT

Developing mental health problems covered include: depression, anxiety problems, psychosis, substance use problems. Mental health crisis situations covered include: suicidal thoughts and behaviours, Non-suicidal self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, severe effects of drug or alcohol use, severe psychotic states and aggressive behaviours.

Blended Workplace Mental Health First Aid Course

This flexible option may suit those that are unable to commit to the 12 hour Standard Course. The Blended workplace course includes; 6 hours of self-paced e-learning training and a 4 hour face-to-face session. The e-learning component is accessible through Mental Health First Aid Australia.

The course teaches managers, supervisors and individuals how to assist a co-worker who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Course content is tailored to the workplace setting using case-studies, videos and resources tailored to their learning needs.

To complete accreditation participants are also required to attend a 4 hour group based face-to-face session.

COURSE CONTENT

In this 4 hour face-to-face training, the focus is on the revision and application of knowledge and skills learnt in the eLearning component. The mental health problems and crisis situations in the Standard Course are also covered in this course.

The training provides participants with the opportunity to:

  • Examine issues pertinent to mental health problems in the workplace in more depth

  • Clarify any points of uncertainty remaining after completion of the eLearning modules

  • Apply the MHFA Action Plan to relevant workplace scenarios

 

Resilience at Work

Resilience is the ability to cope with unexpected changes and effectively navigate the ups and downs of life. This workshop offers practical strategies and information that will help participants realise their capacity for resilience and guide them towards strategies to build resilience.

An Introduction to Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the awareness that emerges through paying attention in the present moment. It is both a practice and a state of being. In this workshop participants will explore an introduction to mindfulness and discuss opportunities to practice mindfulness at work and in daily life.

Communication - the art of listening

Good communication is an essential building block of all relationships. In this workshop we will explore core communication skills and ways that we can better relate to others in the workplace.

  • Practical skills to enhance your relationships
